"Overstimulated" Canvas Art
This is what my brain looks like on an average day. It’s also what you’d probably get if Dr. Seuss and Frank Stella’s work had a baby. But it was mostly inspired by a children’s book we picked up at the library.
It’s titled “Overstimulated” because that’s usually the state my brain is in. Constant questions rolling in, consistent declarations of “Mommy, watch!” amongst the usual day to day tasks that need to be completed. I’m convinced I’m somewhere on the ADHD spectrum (but isn’t every elder millennial?) which just adds to the chaos.
But the chaos can be beautiful if you let it. Sometimes that’s just part of the hard part.
"Overstimulated"
Materials: plastic (popped pool floaties), foam padding, fiber, monofilament
Art measures 17.5" x 17.5"
This piece is part of a bigger collection of work inspired by my experience of being a mom- losing my own just as I was becoming one myself, the overwhelming joy (and frustration, love and unqualified-ness) of motherhood all while honoring our place within Mother Nature.
A major part of my process includes repurposing materials that would otherwise be thrown away. Because there's already enough cool stuff in the world and we don't have to start from scratch to make something new.
